FA&O news: CIO Monique Sendze’s role to expand
Department / Organization: Communications & Marketing
CIO role to change to Chief Information Officer/Deputy Chief Operating Officer
Key to higher education remaining relevant and competitive is the application of the right technology in an agile and flexible way. This will mean shifting the role of the CIO beyond technical capability, which will necessitate the CIO taking on a more comprehensive strategic role that provides strong vision and leadership around how the university uses technology to succeed and drive broad outcomes.
Monique Sendze as Mines CIO has demonstrated her ability to effectively manage our information technology infrastructure and process, as well as to make transformational organizational changes. Monique has created strong partnerships combined with visionary leadership, which have been key to the success of ITS this past year.
With the operations of Mines and IT strategy becoming more closely connected, the CIO role is being expanded to take on broader operational responsibilities. To reflect these expanded responsibilities, the role will now be Chief Information Officer/Deputy Chief Operating Officer. To comply with job posting and pay transparency rules of Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (EPEWA), a restructured role that represents a promotional opportunity must be posted, and we will be posting the Chief Information Officer/Deputy Chief Operating Office position this week.
This is an exciting opportunity that recognizes Monique’s proven leadership and acknowledges our need to drive towards digital transformation as a whole.
