Dr. Kristine Callan on Growth Mindset and Deliberate Practice - Mines Forum for Big Ideas
When people encounter a situation that challenges them more than they are used to, they can experience a variety of feelings associated with the impostor phenomenon (e.g. a persistent fear of being “found out” as an impostor). There are healthy ways to combat these feelings, such as developing a growth mindset and engaging in deliberate practice, which this talk will explore. During this talk we will also reflect on the broader equity implications this has in STEM fields.
Dr. Kristine Callan is a Teaching Professor in the Physics Department. She earned her BS in Physics and Mathematics from Pacific University and her MS and Ph.D. from Duke University. Her graduate research focused mainly on small networks of nonlinear dynamical systems, but her primary passion has always been teaching. When it’s not a pandemic, she also enjoys playing and watching basketball.
We hope to see you at this talk on Thursday, April 29th! The Zoom Meeting I.D. is 964 1406 0006.
