Stephen R. Daniel (1942-2021)
Department / Organization: Chemistry
Remembering Stephen R. Daniel, Emeritus Professor in Chemistry, who passed away April 15
Longtime Mines community member, Stephen R. Daniel, passed on April 15th. Steve joined the Mines community back in the 60s, where he earned his B.S. (1965), M.S. (1966), and PhD (1971) all from Mines. He went on to teach in the Department of Chemistry, and later, he became Department Head. He was also active with the McBride program and served as a tutor and as their Director.
In between teaching and research (focused on stability of hydrocarbon-based fuels, in which some of the methods he developed for stabilization of fuels are standard practice today) Mines Little Theatre benefitted from Steve's natural talent for the arts. In nearly 40 years of service, Steve directed, produced, and acted in dozens of plays and musicals.
Steve's life was filled with adventure and love from and for the many communities he touched (far too many to mention). If you wish to read more about Steve, please visit: https://rememberingstephendaniel.shutterfly.com/
We invite those interested to contribute to the following Mines community in Steve’s honor: Teach@Mines (https://www.mines.edu/teacherprep/): contributions support programs aimed at engaging and interesting young students in science and technology.
