Today 4/27 is Denim Day! - show support for survivors

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Denim Day is one international prevention education and awareness event that anyone can participate in to show support for survivors and for prevention.
Why wear denim?
In 1998, a teenage girl in Italy was raped by her driving instructor. The man was convicted, but his case went to the Supreme Court of Appeals in Rome. The court overturned the conviction, arguing that because the girl wore very tight denim jeans, she must have had to help remove them, thereby giving consent to have sex. The case made international headlines, and the young woman’s jeans became a symbol of awareness that what someone wears is never an excuse for rape.
But, denim isn’t always denim. Survivors sometimes are not believed for a variety of harmful reasons: stereotypes, prejudices, myths. This year please wear your denim as a symbol of your support for all survivors.
Mines has been participating in Denim Day since 2016! Colorado's Denim Day is led by Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CCASA | https://coloradodenimday.org/). If you want to support their statewide efforts, give via @CCASA-Colorado (use the hammer + pick emoji for Mines). Students, employees, community members who wear Denim with a purpose on April 27 are making a difference for the survivors around us.
