Need a study break? Join SCA club in the foundry for a hands-on class on blacksmithing!
Department / Organization: Students for Creative Anachronism
On Wednesday, Dec 7, Scola Metallorum will be holding a hands-on class on Blacksmithing. Meet in the Foundry (Hill Hall basement) at 6:00 PM for a fun evening of hammer and anvil metalworking!
This coming Wednesday, take a break from studying with Scola Metallorum's final class of the semester. We will be joined by Michael Erlich for a class on medieval blacksmithing. He is prepared both to teach information on basic tool construction, such as s-hooks and tent stakes, as well on the basic instruction on the smithing of blades. Students will be allowed to take home any non-weapon tools they make. Bring long-sleeved shirts and long (jean thickness or higher) pants with no holes in them to actively participate on the forge. Closed toed shoes are also required for forge participation, although this is not required for spectators. Bring your lab goggles if you have them, but goggles and smithing aprons will be provided otherwise.
The class will take place in the Foundry at 6:00 PM. The Foundry is located in the basement of Hill Hall. For more information contact our A&S coordinator at abramsflohr@mines.edu or call at 7202783851. You may also join us on our Orgsync for access to all our information on our A&S classes and meeting times, as well as information on our other events including fencing, archery, and armored combat.
Scola thanks you all for a wonderful semester of medieval arts and crafts. We hope to see you there!
