Dr. George Gilmer - Obituary

The American Association for Crystal Growth has recently announced that Dr. George H. Gilmer passed away on November 27, 2022. George was a pillar in our scientific community, and he was considered the father of computational crystal growth. His contributions to the area ranged from understanding step motion on surfaces to the first kinetic Monte Carlo simulation of a spiral dislocation. He was a founding member of the American Association for Crystal Growth and he will be greatly missed. The Mines community was fortunate to have George as a colleague on campus for about 9 years (2012-2021), as he worked as a Research Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
