Leadership Change in Chemical and Biological Engineering
Department / Organization: College of Applied Science and Engineering
Professor David Marr steps down as department head, Professor Colin Wolden to serve in interim
I would like to announce that Professor David Marr has resigned his position as department head of Chemical and Biological Engineering effective Dec. 31, 2016. David joined Mines in 1995 and has served as the department head since Fall 2010, overseeing a period of rapid growth in undergraduate student numbers (from 530 to 780), considerable expansion of faculty numbers and research activity, and enhanced reputation for the department. During this time, David has maintained an active research program in the area of colloidal-based devices for microfluidic applications. I want to formally thank David for his service to both Mines and the department.
Professor Colin Wolden has agreed to serve as the interim department head effective Jan. 1, 2017, while a search for a permanent head is conducted. Colin joined the CBE faculty in 1997 and served as the interim department head from January to June 2015, when David was on sabbatical in New Zealand. Colin has an active research group that is focused on nanostructured thin films and materials for sustainable energy applications, including thin film solar cells, membrane reactors, opto-electronics, electrochromics, and next-generation battery materials. Colin also heads the Colorado Institute for Energy, Materials and Computational Science or CIEMACS. I also want to formally thank Colin for his willingness to serve the department in this capacity.
