Survey on Generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT) in Student Life
Department / Organization: Computer Science
All students can earn a chance to win $25 by taking a quick survey on generative AI to inform upcoming policies at Mines.
Are you interested in how Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) such as ChatGPT, Githut Co-Pilot, Dall-E, or Midjourney will impact education at Mines? A committee of Mines faculty, staff, and student representatives is now developing institutional policies on the use of GenAI inside and outside of the classroom. The committee acknowledges that student feedback should help to shape these policies. Therefore, a survey has been opened to the entire study body (current & incoming) and will remain open until Friday, May 19, 2023 at midnight: https://mines.questionpro.com/genAIsurvey. Students who complete the survey (~10 minutes) may opt in to a drawing for one of four $25 Amazon gift cards.
The survey measures how widespread the use of genAI tools is in the Mines student population, and will develop knowledge of students' perceptions of the opportunities/risks associated with genAI. Anonymized results of the survey will be emailed to all students who opt in to receive an update. All answers are confidential, and student identity is not tied to survey responses in any way. Please be totally honest about your thoughts, experiences, and feelings so that this survey can provide the best value for everyone.
Prof. Estelle Smith is also assessing interest in an interdisciplinary research collaboration for taxonomizing uses of genAI across STEM and engineering curricula. Students may opt in to receive more information about participating in or co-authoring this study.
