Department / Organization: Be Well
February is Body love Month, which raises awareness for eating disorders, health, wellness, and more. A courageous Mines Student would like to share their story of recovering from anorexia nervosa.
From the Mines Student
As someone who has endured anorexia nervosa and defeated it after four months of treatment, I truly believe recovery from a mental illness is possible with the right help, hard work, and support. The severity of my disorder hit when I realized it wasn't only my body being affected, but my brain. I truly lived the fact that a healthy brain equals a healthy body, and without a healthy brain I would not be the engineering student I am today!
This is a message to anyone struggling with a mental illness to find your reasons to get better, or your recovery "whys." For me, it was so I could go to this incredible school and get the education of my dreams. I wouldn't be able to solve Schrodinger's equation as unhealthy as I was a year ago! But today, I am living a healthy, full life free of an eating disorder--and recovery is possible for you too!
