Science and Technology for National Security
Dr. Patricia Falcone Deputy Director for Science and Technology Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Hill Hall 202 4 pm, Wednesday 10 April 2024
Increased scientific understanding and the realization of new technological capabilities are a continuing source of our nation’s strength; emergent technologies can also present new challenges. Critical and emerging technologies related to space, artificial intelligence, computing, novel materials, energy and manufacturing are the subject of ongoing research and engineering as well as a focus of new policy and strategy discussions. Engineers have the tools to contribute to the scientific advances themselves as well as to lead in the understanding of challenges, the development of capable responses, and the design of resilient systems. A personal perspective on key engineering tools and approaches, some observations and experiences, as well as highlights of ongoing research at a national laboratory will be described.
