CEEN402 - Project Engineering Online for ALL Disciplines
Department / Organization: Civil & Environmental Engineering
Considering Project Management in your career? Need 3-hrs of credit? Have a summer internship? This course might be for you!
This is not a project management course; but it’s all about managing projects. It is not an engineering course; but it’s all about how engineers in all disciplines work to effectively complete projects. And it is not a leadership course; but it’s all about a leader’s skill sets that can make a difference in project delivery.
Mechanical, Mining, Petroleum, Chemical, and Electrical - along with Civil - Engineers are all likely to lead teams to complete projects in their careers. But too often they are assigned to positions without some of the practical competencies that are required for success; and too often project managers fail to appreciate the efforts required to develop the information required to make effective decisions.
Project Engineers – through their “big picture” understanding of overall project completion requirements, technical knowledge of the components that must be coordinated & assembled, and application of people skills – get things done. This career-oriented, multi-discipline course focuses on the roles & responsibilities, skills, and character of the Project Engineer as a problem-solver, integrator, and leader. Emotional Intelligence is introduced along with identification of skills that are considered essential for leading projects and people to success. Management, leadership, ethical principles, and best practices are illustrated through case studies of complex, high-profile domestic and international projects.
