Department / Organization: EMP The Religious Naturalist Orientation: Taking Nature to Mind and to Heart
Ursula Goodenough?is Professor of Biology Emerita at Washington University, retiring to Martha’s Vineyard in 2017. She taught cell biology and evolution and engaged in research that focused on the sexual cycle of the green soil alga Chlamydomonas. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the National Academy of Science, and served as president of the American Society for Cell Biology. She and others are developing what is called a non-theistic?religious naturalist orientation. A new edition (2023) of her?book, The Sacred Depths of Nature,?describes her understandings of this orientation and will be presented in this seminar. She is the proud mother of 5 children and 10 grandchildren.
