RJS Consulting Inc. | Establishing Water Management Strategies for Slope Stability at Two Diamond Mines - Case Studies
Mining of resources by open-pit mining methods necessitates that the depths of pits become deeper. An evaluation of pore pressures within the pit slopes is critical to assess overall slope stability. If pore pressures are high relative to rock strength, then dewatering/ depressurization strategies must be implemented. These strategies must be implemented early in the mining process because of the low permeability of the rocks at the two mines that will be discussed in this seminar. Water management is a key component of the mining process as it requires the interaction of hydrogeologists, mining engineers, and mine planners so that effective water-management strategies can be designed and implemented. This seminar will present case studies of the hydrogeology approaches to depressurize slopes at two mines in Botswana.
