Two Teach@Mines courses qualify! Check out Science or Math Practices in Spring 2025
Scientific Practices vs. Engineering Design & the Nature of Scientific Knowledge, SCED415/515:
This course prepares students to integrate knowledge of scientific and engineering practices into their teaching, including asking questions, defining problems, developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, constructing explanations and designing solutions, engaging in argument from evidence, obtaining, evaluating and communicating information. These skills will be explored in the context of science: 1) earthquakes & waves, 2) mitosis, meiosis, & reproduction, 4) periodic table of elements, 5) energy conservation, and 6) forces in static equilibrium.
Mathematical Practices & the Social Context of Math, MAED405/505:
This course provides students an opportunity to develop the skills to promote mathematical identity and their understanding of mathematical practices and processes. These skills will be modeled, practiced and mastered in the context of authentic mathematical practices (e.g., the formation of the quadratic equation through maximization of orange production). Students will explore the historical development of content and perspectives from diverse cultures.
Teach@Mines offers courses, advising, and certification pathways to help you explore the teaching profession. Check out the T@M course page for more information about other courses offered by T@M as well as our Minor or MS in STEM Education!
