Dr. Doug Kothe, Chief Research Officer, Sandia National Laboratories, Wednesday, Dec. 4, 4 pm. Hill Hall 202
DISTINGUISHED SEMINAR Dr. Doug Kothe Sandia National Laboratories
Advanced Science and Technology at Sandia National Laboratories 4 pm Wednesday 4 December 2024 Hill Hall 202
Starting with a brief overview of Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), a deeper dive will be presented on SNL’s Advanced Science and Technology portfolio, which includes the bulk of SNL’s complex, moderate hazard and nuclear experimental facilities, and a $270M+ annual Laboratory Directed R&D Program for high-consequence impactful research. AS&T efforts at SNL include computational simulation (AI/ML, modsim), environmental testing, high energy density and inertial confinement fusion science, high performance computing, materials science and engineering, and radiation effects science – all capabilities used daily to provide services and products that directly support all of SNL’s missions. I will also touch on past experiences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, namely the recently completed Department of Energy (DOE) Exascale Computing Project (ECP -https://www.exascaleproject.org/) and DOE’s first energy innovation hub known as CASL (Consortium for Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors - https://www.casl.gov/).
