ABSTRACT: The building enclosure serves a critical role in the performance of the buildings we occupy each day. Attendees will be introduced to the environmental loads acting on buildings and the role modern building enclosure systems play in controlling these loads. We will discuss the four fundamental building enclosure control layers before taking a deeper dive into the concept of vapor control. Through interactive discussion and example problems, we will review concepts of vapor pressure, vapor diffusion, dewpoint, vapor condensation, and hygrothermal material properties, with real world examples of common design and construction practice.
