ME Distinguished Speaker Dr. Livescu, Los Alamos Nat. Lab

Please, join the ME Department on Tuesday, April 8th for a presentation by Dr. Livescu, from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr. Daniel Livescu is a senior scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and, currently is the PI for several projects at LANL, including the DOE/NNSA Office of Experimental Sciences program on DNS. His research interests are in the general areas of theoretical and computational fluid mechanics, with emphasis on turbulence and turbulent mixing simulation, theory, and modeling. Dr. Livescu is a Fellow ASME, Associate Fellow AIAA, and the recipient of the 2017 (inaugural) Frank Harlow Distinguished Mentor Award. He also serves as Associate Editor for AIAA Journal and Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics. Dr. Livescu will give an overview of his research results, including applications to isotropic turbulence and boundary layers, and show that the addition of memory terms significantly extends the prediction horizon compared to DMD. He will also describe a novel mode decomposition technique they have introduced based on the Mori-Zwanzig formalism and its application to boundary layer transition. Finally, Dr. Livescu will talk about their current efforts to enhance turbulent models with addition of memory terms.
