STAY COOL IN JULY WITH GREAT FILM/ART/LITERATURE: HASS 410
Department / Organization: HASS
SAVE YOUR PLACE IN HASS 410 (SUMMER 2): YOUR INVITATION TO MAKE JULY PLEASURABLE + PRODUCTIVE, TRAVELING WORLDS OF MODERN ART
This summer's interdisciplinary version of HASS 410 "Critical Perspectives on 20th-Century Literature" invites students to examine short classics in modernist and postmodern literature from Europe, the Americas and beyond through illuminating perspectives generated by other arts: painting, photography, film, architecture.
Let's make July work for you! You can finish your Humanities requirement and complete a vital step toward graduation in a succinct, stimulating way. Voyage to Paris, Rome, Munich, Venice, Prague, London, Buenos Aires and beyond through compelling reading and viewing. Syllabus may include Kafka, Camus, Hemingway, Orwell, Woolf, Borges, Pirandello, Kundera and Calvino. Transformative painters, directors, and architects will also be foregrounded.
The instructor, Jay Straker, is welcome to your input in developing the list of short reading assignments. There will be just two short essays, which students can approach according to their historical, geographical, interdisciplinary and aesthetic passions. Course schedule and attendance policy designed flexibly to accommodate students' favorite seasonal activities, coursework or other individual responsibilities.
Let's make this course work for you, practically, intellectually, creatively! Enrollment will close mid-June. Feel free to email me at any time with questions or concerns: jstraker@mines.edu.
