Student Employee Pay Deductions for Summer - TIAA & Medicare
Department / Organization: MAPS
TIAA & Medicare will be deducted from earnings of students not registered for summer courses - Notify MAPS by June 1, 2025.
Action Required by June 1, 2025
Student employees who are not enrolled in enough summer credit hours to qualify for the half-time student status exemption from future retirement withholding, mandated by the Federal government, will see TIAA and Medicare deductions on their June 13, 2025 paycheck.
To qualify for the exemption, student employees must be enrolled in at least:
3 credit hours for undergraduates, or 1.5 credit hours for graduate students
If you meet these enrollment requirements for Summer and wish to be exempt from TIAA and Medicare deductions, please notify MAPS no later than June 1, 2025, so we can verify your enrollment.
Important:
Please note that these two additional deductions will take place through the end of your summer employment contract or your August 29, 2025 paycheck whichever comes first. If we are not notified of your enrollment by the June 1, 2025 deadline, TIAA and Medicare will be deducted, and we are unable to process any refunds for these deductions.
