Student Employee Pay Deductions for Summer - TIAA & Medicare
Department / Organization: MAPS
TIAA & Medicare will be deducted from earnings of students not registered for summer courses.
Student employees who are not enrolled in enough summer credit hours to qualify for the half-time student status exemption from future retirement withholding, mandated by the Federal government, will see TIAA and Medicare deductions on their June 13, 2025 paycheck.
To qualify for the exemption, student employees must be enrolled in at least:
3 credit hours for undergraduates, or 1.5 credit hours for graduate students
MAPS will confirm enrollment status for student employees. If the enrollment criteria above is met, these deductions will not be taken from your check; there is no action needed by the student employee.
If your enrollment status changes after June 1, 2025, please notify MAPS, so we can remove the deductions going forward. Please note that we are unable to process any refunds for these deductions.
Important:
Please note that these two additional deductions will take place through the end of your summer employment contract or your August 29, 2025 paycheck whichever comes first.
