Were you a first-generation college student?
Department / Organization: Alpha Alpha Alpha
Mines is now home to a new chapter of Alpha Alpha Alpha, an honors society for first-generation college students!
Colorado School of Mines has some exciting news to share with you!
Colorado School of Mines is pleased to announce the formation of a new honor society, Alpha Alpha Alpha (or Tri-Alpha), which recognizes the academic achievements of first-generation college students. Colorado School of Mines is proud to have started the first chapter—the Nu Lambda chapter—of Alpha Alpha Alpha in Colorado!
To qualify: • you must have earned at least a Bachelor Degree • Neither of your parents (nor step-parents nor legal guardians) completed a bachelor’s degree prior to your completing one (if they completed a bachelor’s degree subsequent to yours, that does not matter for this purpose) • you must be serving in Higher Education at the time of your induction
Faculty and staff who are inducted into Alpha Alpha Alpha may be asked to serve as mentors for our first-generation students, who will benefit from knowing that others made their journey before them and succeeded!
We are also open to an additional faculty/staff advisor for the society, so if that interests you please let us know.
If you qualify for membership and/or would like more clarification, reach out to Jimmy Pak at jimmy.pak@mines.edu for more information or to request an application. Please put “Tri-Alpha faculty/staff membership” as the subject line.
