November 15th is America Recycles Day!
Department / Organization: Sustainability
Celebrate the day by sharing these recycling tips
Help Mines reduce landfill waste by reviewing the recycling tips below.
1) All PLASTIC BOTTLES are recyclable. Just empty the liquid and keep the cap on. No need to rinse as long as bottle is empty of liquid. Update-Republic said they will even take a half-full bottle of soda.
2) PLASTICS No. 1-7 are recyclable on campus. According to Republic Services, they CAN take all plastics with the number 1-7 on the bottom of the package.
3) PLASTIC BAGS AND WRAP are NOT recyclable. Put all plastic bags, plastic film and chip bags in the trash on campus.
4) GLASS BOTTLES and JARS. Glass can be recycled infinitely with no loss in purity. Mines only recycles glass drink bottles and glass jars.
5) CARDBOARD BOXES are recyclable. Please flatten prior to recycling. A small amount of tape and stickers is okay (e.g., Amazon package tape). However, if the box has too much tape and stickers = trash. You can also recycle CLEAN cardboard pizza boxes. If they are greasy or cheesy, put in trash. You can tear the clean top off and recycle the top.
6) ALUMINUM and TIN cans such as Pepsi and Coke and soup cans are recyclable. DO NOT CRUSH aluminum cans. For soup cans, empty the remaining soup out of can prior to recycle. No need to rinse it out according to Republic.
