Mines on the Amalfi Coast: Biochemistry or Data Science
Department / Organization: Computer Science
Study Biochemistry or Data Science on Italy’s Amalfi Coast - earn credit, explore Pompeii & experience life abroad with Mines
Spend your summer studying abroad on Italy’s breathtaking Amalfi Coast while earning Mines credit in Biochemistry or Data Science! This faculty-led program takes place at the Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, a historic seaside town overlooking the Bay of Naples. Students will take CHGN428: Biochemistry with Dr. Christian Beren or CSCI 413/DSCI 403/DSCI 503: Introduction & Advanced Data Science with Dr. Wendy Fisher, combining academic rigor with cultural exploration and global learning.
Outside the classroom, the program offers unforgettable experiences that bring Italian history, science, and culture to life. Enjoy a guided archeological tour of Pompeii, a farm-to-table cooking class at Fattoria Terranova, snorkeling in the Marine Protected Area, and a visit to the Vesuvius Observatory — all included excursions that showcase the unique intersection of science, environment, and culture in the region.
From the classroom to the coastline, you’ll expand your academic and personal horizons while connecting with Mines faculty and peers in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Whether you’re analyzing proteins or predicting data trends, you’ll gain new perspectives, lifelong memories, and international experience that will set you apart.
