"Creating a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Practical Tips" - Monday, 11/10, 1:00 pm Hill Hall 204
Please join us for the Construction Engineering Professor of Practice Candidate Academic Lecture by Kimberly Watanabe.
ABSTRACT: Since its development by NASA and the Department of Defense in the 1960s, the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) has become an essential project management tool, evolving through integration with modern software to enhance workflow, communication, and collaboration. Today, WBS is applied to a wide range of projects, from highly complex initiatives to simple event planning, by breaking down tasks into manageable components. This lecture introduces WBS, detailing its types, the decomposition process, and the various task roles in effective monitoring and planning. It also highlights the significance of the WBS task definitions and offers practical guidance for creating a WBS that aligns project scope, cost and schedule for improved project management.
