Mining Seminar: Nicole Smith, Dept. of Mining Engineering
Department / Organization: Mining Engineering
Topic: Do Critical Minerals Narratives Resonate? Community Perspectives on the Critical Minerals Boom
Abstract: The urgency surrounding critical minerals is taken for granted in policy and industry circles, but its public resonance is less clear. This talk brings together insights from qualitative and quantitative social science research to analyze whether prevailing critical minerals narratives are shaping public perceptions and influencing social acceptance of mining.

A cultural anthropologist by training, her research and teaching explore the social dimensions of mining and mineral supply chains.
