Energy Courses for Spring 2026
Department / Organization: HASS
Energy courses: Intro to Energy (ENGY200), Nuclear Energy (ENGY340), Solar Energy (ENGY450), Energy Transition (HASS491/591)
Globally and locally, it is a fascinating time for innovations in energy science, technology, and policy. Mines faculty are leading the way in research and teaching, preparing our students for exciting careers in a wide variety of sectors.
The Energy Minor sponsors several courses which can be found under the ENGY (Energy) prefix. We are not a department but instead a truly multidisciplinary program. Whether you are getting the Minor, considering the Minor, or just want to take some energy courses, we welcome you to enroll in our classes.
These four courses being offered in Spring 2026- ENGY200, ENGY340, ENGY450, and HASS451 - count toward the Energy Minor. ENGY200 is a great introduction to all types of energy - fossil fuels, renewables, nuclear, storage, etc. ENGY340 introduces students to nuclear energy. ENGY450 covers solar energy engineering. HASS451 is an 8-week online course that covers the politics and policy of the energy transition. It is one of the two options for a social science course required for the Minor. It also meets the Culture & Society requirement.
For more energy-related courses offered in departments across campus, see the Energy Minor website. To declare the Energy Minor or for advice about the Minor, contact the Director: Dr. Kathleen Hancock.
