Jan Lunch Bunch: Spotlight on Mines' Nuclear Science program
Department / Organization: Mines Foundation
Meet program director Mark Jensen to learn how this nationally recognized program advances education, research and policy.
Nuclear Science and Engineering at Mines is an interdisciplinary program that draws on faculty expertise from nearly every academic department, including Chemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Physics and Economics and Business.
Founded in 2007, the program has quickly risen to national prominence. Alongside a traditional nuclear engineering core curriculum, it emphasizes the full nuclear fuel life cycle. Areas of focus include fuel exploration and processing, nuclear power system production, design and operation, fuel recycling, storage and waste remediation, radiation detection and radiation damage, and the policy issues surrounding each of these areas. Related research is conducted through the Nuclear Science and Engineering Center.
Kick off a new year of Lunch Bunch programming by meeting program director Mark Jensen, Grandey University Chair in Nuclear Science and Engineering and professor in the Department of Chemistry to learn more.
