ROTC at Mines: Cadet Life, Leadership, and Careers Today
Department / Organization: Mines Foundation
Take an inside look at cadet life at Mines and the leadership paths graduates pursue beyond campus.
Colorado School of Mines was among the first four U.S. colleges to establish an ROTC program, commissioning its first graduating class in 1921. Many will remember that through the early 1970s, all Mines students were required to complete two years of ROTC training. While participation is no longer mandatory, the program continues to thrive today. Mines now offers both Army and Air Force ROTC, serving more than 150 cadets as part of the 13-school Golden Buffalo Battalion hosted by CU Boulder.
Join us for a closer look at this historic and impactful program, led by Captain David Hermerding, who will share what a day in the life of a cadet looks like, what they study at Mines and the diverse leadership careers they pursue after graduation.
