QBE Seminar Series Dr. Kelsey J. A. Metzger Metzbertsel 2/25

Department / Organization: EMP

So, like, how’d you get there?

I hope you are finding clarity, confidence, and joy as you traverse the landscape of the Quantitative Biosciences and Engineering program at Colorado School of Mines. Since you’re in a program that invites you to “harness and respond to the data revolution,” you might be intrigued by some stories I’ll tell about how I was drawn into the realm of quantitative molecular evolution (bioinformatics style), and about how when I saw the phrase “learning analytics” in a job ad, I knew I’d found where I wanted to grow up into a “big kid” faculty member.

In this seminar, I’ll tell you about the milestone steps along my journey that took me from being a first-generation college student to the Full Professor I am today, who earned tenure primarily on a track record of scholarly contributions in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER), and who is actively trying to make “good trouble” by using her position of relative security and privilege wherever she can to improve learning in all the ways.

I can’t promise you’ll love my seminar, but I can promise pictures of turtles, alligators, dogs, and cats and at least one book recommendation and one Minnesota album you should definitely give a listen.
