Academic Lectures
Mining Seminar Series: Larry Clark on March 11

Department / Organization: Mining Engineering

Topic: From Pickaxes to Predictive Models: AI in Modern Mining?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has advanced at an astonishing rate and is now a mainstream tool. This presentation will discuss ways AI has become available in tools for mining but will explore more broadly AI tools in our academic world and our everyday life. A common theme in the news is the threat we face from AI replacing jobs but there is a much more optimistic way to view AI. The tools now widely available now (Chatgpt, Claude, Grok and others) can be of significant advantage to our jobs and the questions we face in our personal lives. But failing to recognize and capitalize on these advantages can be disruptive and perhaps destructive. We will explore ways to use these new technologies as a next step in our knowledge journey.
