Start Planning Your Cardboard Boats for E-Days!

Department / Organization: Tau Beta Pi: Engineering Honor Society

Join Tau Beta Pi for our annual Cardboard Boat Race this E-Days with signups opening March 16th at 12pm.

This year's Cardboard Boat Race will take place on April 18th, 9am-12pm at Clear Creek.

A maximum of 90 teams will be allowed to participate in this year’s race with an additional 15 waitlist slots available. The form to sign up will go live here in the Daily Blast on March 16th at 12pm.

Design Limitations are listed below:
1) All components must be made of cardboard
-Cloth can be used for decoration (ex. flags)
-Paddles or oars must be made from cardboard (shaft can be dowel or broomstick), otherwise, paddles will be provided at the race
-No flotation devices can be used for construction
2) Adhesives (glue, liquid nails, duct tape) can be used for all fasteners
-Rope but not wire can be used as a fastener
3) Paints or varnish can be used as decoration, but not as waterproofing
-No asphalt or asphalt products
-No duct tape or other tape products for sealants
4) Team members must wear life jackets and helmets
5) All team members must sign a waiver before entering the water
6) A minimum of 3 team members must be in the boat during the race. All team members must finish inside the boat to qualify for the time trial
7) Teams must take boats and all cardboard out of the water after the attempt
8) Do not throw objects from your boat
9) No more than 70% of the design can be adhesive on the bottom of the boat
10) Alcohol and other substances are strictly prohibited
