NUCLEAR Fun Fact of the Week
Department / Organization: American Nuclear Society Can a modern nuclear power plant explode like a nuclear bomb? (Click blue link for answer!!)
ANSWER: No!!! Commercial nuclear reactors use fuel that is only lightly enriched (about 3–5% U-235), far below the level needed for a bomb. The fuel and reactor design prevent a rapid, explosive chain reaction. (Source linked below) OVERVIEW: If you enjoyed this fact and want to explore nuclear from many different perspectives, including energy, policy, and engineering, consider joining the AMERICAN NUCLEAR SOCIETY.
