New Course this Fall: Regenerative Design M/W 11am-12:15pm

Department / Organization: EDS

Explore how living systems thrive—and how to design solutions that restore ecosystems, communities, and economies.

All living systems are regenerative. They adapt, circulate resources, build relationships, and create the conditions for life to thrive over time. What would it mean to design human systems in the same way?

EDNS 498: Regenerative Development & Design is a new course launching this fall that introduces an approach to engineering grounded in the patterns and principles that sustain healthy living systems. Moving beyond sustainability, the course explores how design can actively restore ecological health, strengthen communities, and support long-term prosperity.

Through case studies, systems mapping, and project-based work, students will learn to understand complex, interconnected systems and design interventions that align with how living systems function. Rather than solving isolated problems, students will explore how to work with dynamic systems to create lasting environmental, social, and economic value.

Ideal for students interested in climate solutions, systems thinking, sustainable engineering, and designing for a thriving future.
