35,000 Devices and Counting: Our New Wi-Fi Can Handle It
Department / Organization: IT The main campus Wi-Fi upgrade is officially complete! Experience a Wi-Fi connection built for the heavy demands of Mines.
The numbers are in, and they are impressive: over 35,000 devices are connecting to the new Mines Wi-Fi every single day. IT has been working hard across campus since 2024 to completely overhaul the hardware and wiring to support everything from high-intensity research data transfers to everyday streaming. While work continues at Village at Mines Park (Buildings 1903-2027) and other extended areas (check out the schedule on our website https://it.mines.edu/networkmodernizationproject/) through the end of the academic year, the internet in the heart of our campus is officially modernized. Troubleshooting your connection: If your device isn't automatically hitting those new top speeds, it’s likely a couple of quick configuration fixes: 1) Disable MAC Randomization: This will prevent repeated requests to re-register your device when trying to connect to Wi-Fi: https://helpcenter.mines.edu/TDClient/1946/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=135396 2) Update Device Settings: https://helpcenter.mines.edu/TDClient/1946/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=152309 You can also contact the IT Service Desk for help.
