Eco-Friendly Move-Out Tips
Department / Organization: Sustainability Move-out sustainably with these tips from Sustainability Office
Students can accumulation a lot of waste in a year! As you plan your move-out and get ready for summer break, please consider packing with the environment in mind. Option #1: Donate - May 9th and May 23rd (10 am to 2pm) Goodwill trucks and staff will be on campus two days in May to collect donations. On May 9th, students living on the main campus can donate to Goodwill in the Starzer Welcome Center parking lot. On May 23rd, Goodwill staff will be parked outside Community Center#2 in Mines Park to collect donations from Mines Park students. Goodwill takes everything from clothing and bedding to used electronics, housewares, school supplies and sports equipment. Option #2: Recycle Try to separate out items that can be recycled like cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, metal cans, and paper products. Packing materials like Styrofoam and plastic film go into the trash. Many items that can't be recycled can be donated to Goodwill, including tools. Check the recycling website for more information. Grounds staff will arrange to have trash and recycling roll-offs delivered to campus to help with the extra waste generated at move-out. Please place items in the appropriately labeled bins and roll-offs. Go to this website for more information: https://sustainability.mines.edu/recycling-on-campus/
