Most Orediggers don’t use cannabis, but those who do should be familiar with how to use safely. Click through for more!

Cannabis: “bite-sized” information:
• Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the primary cannabinoid found in cannabis that gets you "high". Getting “high” can be addictive and can lead to Cannabis Use Disorder.
• Cannabis is illegal under federal law and thus is prohibited on the Mines campus or in public places! It is illegal for use by anyone under 21.
• According to our Mines Spring 2025 National College Health Assessment, 63% of students do not report ever using cannabis. 77% didn’t use within the past 3 months.

Tips for responsible use:
• Be aware of how much you’re consuming. Check the potency and serving size of your products.
• For edibles, start small and wait at least 90 minutes and up to 4 hours before consuming more.
• Before driving, wait at least 6 hours after smoking and at least 8 hours after eating or drinking.
• Don’t mix cannabis and other substances. Mixing with alcohol can increase your risk of vomiting, blackouts, and overdose. There may be unexpected interactions with other drugs or prescription meds.

Research shows correlation, and in some cases causation, with high-potency cannabis use (>10% THC) and psychosis, anxiety, paranoia, irritability, attention, concentration, and memory. Use by young adults under 25 is especially concerning, as the brain is still developing.

It’s your choice to use cannabis, legally. But be sure to understand the potential consequences of different types and amounts of use. Stay safe, and be well!
