ANSWER: Neutron capture and decay can transmute elements for example, in reactors or stars, Mercury can be turned into Gold though in practice it’s extremely inefficient and not economically viable. (Source linked below) SEMINAR DESCRIPTION: Dr. Ahmed Diallo of PPPL will deliver a seminar exploring the evolving landscape of fusion energy. In light of ARPA-E’s recent announcement of a $135 million investment in fusion over the next eighteen months, this talk comes at a pivotal moment for the field. Although Dr. Diallo is no longer formally with the agency, he continues to contribute to the development of key concepts shaping its direction. His seminar will provide a broad, insightful perspective on current fusion research, emerging technologies, and the challenges ahead, and is designed to be accessible and engaging for a wide audience, from those new to fusion to those with a deeper technical interest. TIME/LOCATION: Join us TODAY for our seminar and ANS meeting!!! Typically, there are two back to back events held in Hill Hall. Nuclear seminars are every Wednesday from 4–5 pm in Room 202, followed by ANS meetings from 5–6 pm in Room 209. Come to either or stay for both.
