Enhancing Safety: Updates on the 19th Street Crossing

Department / Organization: Infrastructure & Operations

As our campus comes alive for a new academic year, individuals navigating 19th Street have likely noticed a new addition.

As the Mines campus comes alive for the new academic year, students, faculty, and staff navigating 19th Street have likely noticed a significant new addition. Installed this past summer, a brand-new traffic signal now helps Mines students and pedestrians cross safely to the new Lookout Apartments.

To ensure everyone gets off to a safe start, Student Life staff were stationed at the crossing during the first few days of the term to help students learn how to use the new signal properly.

Behind the scenes, the Infrastructure and Operations team has been closely monitoring traffic patterns and is actively working with the City of Golden to fine-tune and adjust signal timing for maximum efficiency. Daily observations and iterative adjustments are being made to achieve optimal performance for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

A Reminder for Commuters
As everyone adjusts to the new traffic pattern, campus commuters are urged to exercise extra caution around the 19th Street crossing:

Drivers: Be prepared to stop when the light is activated and transitions to yellow. A solid red light means a complete stop, while a flashing red light indicates that drivers may proceed only when the crosswalk is entirely clear.

Pedestrians: Please cross only when signaled, remaining aware of surrounding traffic as drivers acclimate to the changes.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work together to keep the Mines campus safe and accessible!
