Radiant Nuclear: The Case for Deployable Microreactors

Nuclear Science and Engineering Seminar Series Radiant Nuclear: The Case for Deployable Microreactors Dr. Rita Baranwal Chief Nuclear Officer, Radiant Nuclear 4 pm Wednesday, September 2 Hill Hall 202 Radiant is developing Kaleidos, a transportable 1 MW-class high-temperature gas-cooled microreactor designed for rapid deployment and resilient power. Of particular interest in Colorado, the U.S. Air Force selected Radiant in 2026 to develop and operate a Kaleidos microreactor at Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora, with deployment targeted for 2028. The company is also preparing for full-scale testing at Idaho National Laboratory and recently received a major U.S. Army award for additional deployments. Radiant offers a timely case study in microreactor engineering, licensing, manufacturing, and defense applications. This seminar will provide an overview of Radiant and considerations in the microreactor reactor market.
